Der ASA 300S ist eine Ikone und das nicht zuletzt, weil es einen andere Ikone zum Vorbild hat – den Maserati 300S in seiner späten Form.
Diese Einschränkung macht allein deutlich, warum an dieser Stelle nicht von einer Replica oder Kopie gesprochen wird. Der ASA 300S ist für sich genommen eigenständig: Es gibt ihn nur als Linkslenker, während die meisten der 27 gebauten Maserati 300S Rechtslenker waren. Zudem waren sich alle ähnlich, aber keiner sah genau wie der andere aus. Deshalb ist der argentinische ASA 300S im besten Sinne eine Hommage an sein Vorbild, den erfolgreichen Maserati 300S der 1950er-Jahre. 🏎️🌟
Das ist kein Zufall, denn hinter der Idee, einen ähnlichen Sportwagen zu bauen steckt Nestor Salerno (*1933). Ein argentinischer Ex-Rennfahrer in den 1950er- und 1960er-Jahren und selbstredend seinerzeit ein Fan von Juan Manuel Fangio.
Salerno fuhr auf den damals beliebten Modellen Ferrari 212, Lancia D24 und Maserati 200S und 300S. Er nahm mehrfach an den “1000 km von Buenos Aires” teil – unter anderem mit einem Maserati 300S – und gewann 1960 die argentinische Meiserschaft in der Kategorie Sport.
Für Motorsportliebhaber beim Legends Grand Prix bedeutet dies eine Gelegenheit, ein lebendes Stück Renngeschichte zu erleben. Der ASA 300S repräsentiert nicht nur die technische Brillanz seiner Zeit, sondern auch die Leidenschaft und den Pioniergeist der Rennfahrer, die Automobilgeschichte schrieben.

The car is an icon, not least because it is modelled on another icon – the Maserati 300S in its late form.
This restriction alone makes it clear why we are not talking about a replica or copy here. The ASA 300S is independent in its own right: It only exists as a left-hand drive, whereas most of the 27 Maserati 300Ss built were right-hand drive. Moreover, they were all similar, but none looked exactly like the other. This is why the Argentinian ASA 300S is in the best sense a homage to its role model, the successful Maserati 300S of the 1950s. 🏎️🌟
This is no coincidence, as Nestor Salerno (*1933) was behind the idea of building a similar sports car. An Argentinian ex-racing driver in the 1950s and 1960s and, of course, a fan of Juan Manuel Fangio at the time.
Salerno drove the then popular Ferrari 212, Lancia D24 and Maserati 200S and 300S models. He took part in the ‘1000 km of Buenos Aires’ several times – including in a Maserati 300S – and won the Argentinian championship in the sports category in 1960.
